2007 BIENNIUM GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
Establish statewide veteran service support for discharged veterans and their family members (1 MT Title 10, Chapter 2, Part 1; and 1 US Title 38 U.S.C.)
- To provide counseling, advice and assistance to ensure the veteran and family receive all federal and state earned entitlements.
- To prepare and file benefit claims with applicable agencies.
- To provide customer service in nine statewide field veterans' service offices.
- To perform regularly scheduled travel throughout the state in support of an outreach program.
- To assist in obtaining supporting military service, awards, legal and medical documentation.
- To maximize the receipt of federal compensation and reduce use of state general fund assistance.
- To establish an 11th Veterans Service Office, situated in Northeast Montana
Actively cooperate with state and federal agencies in the affairs of veterans and their family members (1 MT Title 10, Chapter 2, Part 1; and 1 US Title 38 U.S.C.)
- To advise and assist other agencies regarding veterans' earned entitlements.
- To refer veterans and their family members to other supporting agencies.
- To coordinate and cooperate with all national and state veteran service organizations.
Promote the general welfare of all veterans and their family members (1 MT Title 10, Chapter 2, Part 1; and 1 US Title 38 U.S.C.)
- To participate in all activities in support of veterans and their family members.
- To perform legislative liaison.
- To provide financial support to the Disabled American Veterans veteran transport program.
Establish geographically proximate State Veterans Cemeteries (1 MT Title 10, Chapter 2, Part 6; and 1 US Title 38 U.S.C.)
- To construct, operate and maintain State Veterans Cemeteries in accordance with applicable federal and state statutes.
- To administer State Veterans Cemeteries by maintaining burial records, receiving monetary donations and accounting for plot fees.
- To complete design and construction of the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery in Missoula.
VETERANS AFFAIRS 2009 BIENNIUM GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

| Expand the veterans outreach program by adding 2 additional FTE’s; one of which will establish an 11th state veterans service office to be located in northeast sector of the state. The other position will augment existing veterans services provided the Blackfeet Nation east through Toole County, as managed by the Great Falls veterans service office. | Northeast Sector FTE: Progress measured through increase in military-service connected disability claims developed and submitted to federal VA from northeast Montana counties – Daniels, McCone, Richland, Roosevelt, Sheridan and Valley counties. In fiscal year 2006, 22 claims of this type from these counties were processed and rated – resulting in $101,869 of VA benefits for the clients. The expectation is for this quantity of claims and financial impact to increase 50% during fiscal year 2008, and another 50% in fiscal year 2009. Augmentation FTE: Progress measured through increase in new military-service connected disability claims developed and submitted to federal VA from Glacier, Pondera and Toole Counties. In fiscal year 2006, 27 claims of this type from these counties were processed and rated – resulting in $164,688 of VA benefits for the clients. The expectation is for this quantity of claims to increase 50% during fiscal year 2008, and another 50% in fiscal year 2009. |
