FY 2010 PREPAREDNESS GRANT PROGRAMS

12/8/09 - Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano announced the release of fiscal year 2010 grant application guidance kits for 13 DHS grant programs totaling more than $2.7 billion. The  funds for state, local, tribal and territorial governments and private sector entities are to strengthen our nation's ability to prevent, protect, respond to and recover from terrorist attacks, major disaster and other emergencies.  Links to the press release, overview document and links to the specific grant guidance are provided below:

Some Montana Earthquake Facts:

    • Montana is the fourth most seismically active state in the U.S., trailing areas we typically associated  with earthquakes:  Alaska, California and Hawaii.
    • Records show Montana has experienced significant earthquakes (magnitude 6.0 or larger) in 1897, 1909, 1925, 1935, 1947, 1959, 1964, and 1975.  These quakes have damaged & destroyed buildings, disrupted our infra-structure, caused numerous injuries, and claimed 32 lives.
  • The western half of Montana, home to 3/4 of the state's population, is considered the highest risk for earthquakes.
