Is Montana at Risk?
Identified Hazards for the State of Montana
Basic Disaster Information:
DAM FAILURES
Many causes could result in the failure of a dam. Faulty construction or design, erosion, and even earthquakes are some threats which could cause a dam to fail. Although a rare event, there is a possibility this could happen to any dam in our state. It is important to know where these dams are located and how their failure could effect everything in its downstream path. As the dams within our state are owned by several entities, contact your local DES Coordinator or emergency manager to determine if you are at risk and what you can do to lessen that risk.
